Stillness without holding

What It Does

Makes the distinction between organised stillness — which comes from correct load management — and forced stillness — which comes from bracing or gripping. The first is a by-product; the second is a cause of further problems.

What to Feel

The upper body appearing still from the outside without the rider doing anything active to create it. Ease rather than effort.

Common Mistakes

  • Holding the breath to create stillness.
  • Bracing the lower back or hips to reduce visible movement.
  • Losing fluency through the torso while trying to look still.
