Standing balance test in stirrups

What It Does

Reveals whether the rider's base of support in two-point is through the foot and ankle weight-line or through grip higher up. The standing position amplifies what the sitting position masks.

What to Feel

Genuine balance through the ankle with the foot placed correctly. No grip through the knee or thigh needed. The pelvis able to tilt slightly forward without the whole system collapsing.

Common Mistakes

  • Widening the knee outward as a balance strategy.
  • Rising onto the toe to feel more stable.
  • Not connecting what this reveals to what needs to change when sitting back down.
