Internal hip rotation reset

What It Does

Returns the femur to a balanced position in the hip socket and reduces the gripping pattern that external rotation drives. Many riders who grip through the thigh are locked in external rotation without knowing it.

What to Feel

The inner thigh releasing slightly. The hip joint feeling less compressed. The leg sitting differently on the saddle — often closer without gripping.

Common Mistakes

  • Forcing the leg into internal rotation actively rather than releasing to neutral.
  • Only checking one hip in isolation rather than comparing both.
  • Losing the reset immediately when the horse moves — it usually needs re-established between exercises.
